Otherwise known as the rocket launch technique, named so by Mel Robbins. This can help generate the motivation to get started and take action, when avoidance is getting in the way. From the point of having an idea, this technique states that you have a 5 seconds window to launch from idea to activity without giving attention to any negative self-talk. This can help you to generate a quick win, without anxiety fuelled thoughts becoming a barrier and help you to make an impact in the moment.

Think of a task you have been putting off and would like to pursue.

  • Write down as much detail as you can about what completing this goal involves.
  • Why is this important?
  • What quick wins can you action to get you started?
