Case Study Example
Watch the video, to hear Polly’s story as an example….
I know from experience that in life it is possible for anyone to take action, make an impact and create the results we want. I’ve seen this with people who are in a desperate place; drug addiction, homelessness, suicidal thoughts…
I’ve seen people take themselves from dark difficult places and I’ve seen people in a place of competence and energy who want to become a stronger leader, better parent, or simply an out of office thriver.
The most important thing is regardless of who we are and what our goals are, it is vital when we do create a success, we recognise that we have achieved something (no matter how small) and congratulate ourselves.
But it’s not terribly British to do this. We are brought up to be understated and humble so blowing our own trumpet is considered to be uncouth! We are also taught by societal messages that being busy and multitasking is what makes us a success. This can make us a jack of all trades; master of none. It can also burn us out and take away our ability to give our full attention to what we are doing.
For lots of reasons, it’s easy to overlook the wins we create along the way. It’s all too easy to focus on what’s next or to forget to stop and celebrate your competencies. If we don’t recognise and celebrate, we miss the chance to reflect on what is helpful.
My to-do list became jammed packed when I realised, I needed to reinvent my life. It meant lots of big decisions like houses, cars, and jobs. But it also meant small but significant shifts. Thinking differently, letting go of negative emotions and having my head in a place of opportunity. This was my biggest success!
I also learned that sometimes the really impactful wins can be so small that we need to pay close attention to recognise them.
My advice to you – Create the daily habit of reflecting on your biggest success each day.
Recognise the breakthroughs you have created and make time to celebrate successes large and small. Surround yourself with people who champion you AND cheerlead yourself.
